Stabilizers for plastics introduced into the Japanese market since 1974 are surveyed. The results suggest that major developments have occurred in the field of hindered phenols and hindered amines, followed by phosphorus antioxidants and UV absorbers. Effects ofmolecular weight ofstabilizers on performance as well as possible applications of high molecular weight stabilizers are discussed, as there seems to exist a tendency towards increase in molecular weight of stabilizers.
