In this monograph, the genus is divided into 2 subgenera, 3 sections, and 75 species. Twenty-four species are described for the first time. These are Zornia sinaloensis, Z. areolata, Z. baliensis, Z. hebecarpa, Z. albiflora, Z. Zollingeri, Z. papuensis, Z. muriculata, Z. venom, Z. intecta, Z. pardina, Z. ramboiana, Z. vestita, Z. megistocarpa, Z. fimbriata, Z. contorta, Z. orbiculata, Z. piurensis, Z. cantoniensis, Z. pallida, Z. nervata, Z. muelleriana, Z. echinata, and Z. curvata.
