The state of art and applications of smart structures and integrated systems were discussed. The smart structures involve four elements: actuators, sensors, control strategies and power conditioning electronics. The applications of these elements range from space systems to fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft, automotive, civil structures, machine tools, and medical systems.
