| 520 3# - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
| Summary, etc. | The study of cell membranes encompasses both the biology and physiology of cells and lies at the center of an immense variety of scientific investigation. Important contributions can be recognized from physical chemistry, molecular biology, physiology, cell biology, and biochemistry. In fact there are contribu¬tions from more fields than these. All of these disciplines are required to gain an adequate understanding of the structure and function of cell membranes. Furthermore, the subject of cell membranes is central to an understanding of cellular action. Cell membranes function as the origin of many, if not most, of the vital functions of living cells. Thus, an appreciation of the roles cell mem¬branes play leads to a knowledge of overall cell function normally gained through a study of many sepárate disciplines. |
