The role of calcium (Ca)and the effect of different concentrations of aluminum (Al)on contents of Ca, chlorophyll (aþb), carotenoids, chlorophyll- protein complexes in soybean (Glycine max Merr.)leaves were observed. The Ca content in leaves decreases with the increase of Al concentrations in the solution, i.e., with the decrease of a Ca : Al molar ratio. Furthermore, regardless of Ca presence, higher Al concentrations (0.7-1.0 mM)in the solution lower the content of chlorophyll (aþb), carotenoids, and chlorophyll a : b ratios. On the other hand, when there is no Ca in the solution, the decrease of the stated parameters is even more pronounced.
