Se ha observado que existen varios factores, involucrados en el empleo de inductores, que determinan en gran maner el aumento en la producción de metabolitos secundarios. Estos factores son: a) el tipo de inductor empleado, b) la concentración del inductor en el medio de cultivo, c) la duración de la exposición, d) la composición del medio de cultivo y e) la fase de crecimiento del cultivo celular en que se adiciona el inductor. En este trabajo se explora la posibilidad de emplear inductores bióticos y abióticos para aumentar la producción de alcaloides indólicos en raíces transformadas de C. roseus.
