El periodo de incubación aparente del Amarillamiento Letal (AL) del cocoteri es de 3-9 meses (Rommey, 1972). Este fue estimado según el tiempo de aparición de síntomas visuales en palmas expuestas a la enfermedad. En la actualidad el uso de la técnica molecular de la reacción en Cadena de la Polimerasa (PCR) permite detectar palmas portadoras de fitoplasma aún visualmente sanas. Por lo tanto, el objetivo de este trabajo fue determinar el periodo real de incubación del AL utilizando la técnica de PCR. Se realizaron evaluaciones mensuales durante 12 meses a 400 palmas. Se obtuvo la incidencia visual de la enfermedad, se tomaron muestras de troncos a palmas que no presentaba síntomas. El periodo de incubación fue de 2-4 meses, siendo mas frecuente el de 2 meses. El Promedio de infección del AL fue de 1.05 palmas mes-1, con un incremento anual de 20.5 |
