Summary, etc. The Effect of different abrasives on the masmissibility of several plant viruses wss tested. Celite and animal drnrcoal were as effective as cnrborundum in increasmg the number of lesions produced by a given inoculum : -mesh carborundum was the most effmive among the different sizes which were tested; this gave a result equivalent to indg the vinu wntent a hundred times. Some prepam-tions of carborundum and charcopl reduced infectivity. Uninjured plaats resked infectivity when virus solutions were sprayed over them. Leaves pre-viously rubbed without abrasives developed only few lesions whereas leaves rubbed with abrasives developed large numbers. Three hours after rubbing with abntsives leaves had regained theheir n- sttance to sprayed virus solutions. The ects of rubbing leaves with abrasives. uc described and their significnnoe disansed.
