Summary, etc. It has given me great pleasure to accept Oliver and Boyd's proposal that 1 should acquaint the English reader with my work on the origin and dispersal of flowering plants. The original intention of the publishers \Vas to provide a translation of my book The Origin cif Angiospermous Planes, the second "edition of which \Vas published in Moscow in 1961. During íts preparatíon for translation, howewer, and also after translation, the manuscript (and even the galley)has been subjected to so much revision that it is now substantially different from the Russian edition. It is in fact a new book that is here presented to the reader, and for this reason 1 have permitted myself to accord it a new title.
