La poliploidía es un mecanismo que implica variación en el contenido de ADN, esta variación puede afectar la expresión de genes y actividad de muchas proteínas, resultando en la generación de fenotipos que algunas veces proporcionan ventajas adaptativas ala aparición de nuevas especies poliploides con respecto a sus antecesores (Chen et al., 2004). En un organismo poliploide generalmente se encuentran genes duplicados, que pueden ser eliminados o mantenidos; como, los genes ribosomales (ADNr). Éstos genes se encuentran organizados en tándem y están controlados a nivel transcripcional y por rearreglos de cromatina, originando que a pesar de que existan cientos de éstos genes, durante el desarrollo solo un grupo son transcritos (Banerjee y Sharma, 1987). Hasta ahora se desconoce sí el número de copias, nivel de expresión, son afectados de alguna manera en especies que han tenido un incremento en su genoma (poliploides), por ejemplo Agave. Es por ello que en este trabajo se evaluó el comportamiento de las regiones ribosomales en diferentes especies poliploides de Agave. La variabilidad gen ética y las diferencias en los perfiles de expresión observados entre los genes ADNr 5S y 18S podrían ser indicadores de otras diferencias gen éticas o metabólicas como consecuencia del nivel de ploidía o de la especie de Agave. |
