Las técnicas del cultivo in vitro representan una herramienta muy valiosa para el mejoramiento genético de las plantas. Una de las posibilidades mas interesantes de estas técnicas se relacionan con la posibilidad de realizar, en un recipiente de laboratorio, el rastreo de variantes genéticas para características de interés. Estas técnicas, llamadas de selección in vitro ya han sido empleadas exitosamente para obtener variedades mejoradas de varias plantas agrícolas. En el presente trabajo, se presenta una revisión de las características de estas técnicas, así como las ventajas e inconvenientes de su uso. Los sistemas mas comunes del cultivo de tejidos vegetales, también son analizados en uno de los capítulos. |
