A unique diterpene 1, was isolated from the altiplane Andean plant Azorella madreporica Clos (Apiaceae). The structure and stereochemistry were established by spectral methods and molecular mechanics calculations. The compound possesses a novel hydrocarbon skeleton for which we suggest the name madreporane.
