Recursos en línea: Resumen: This review reports on the O2 diffusion in gels with microorganisms, the difficulties arising due to their presence and the solutions to overcome this problem. Among the topics discussed are the morphological behaviour of the microorganisms, the change in the profile of O2 uptake rate during the growth of microorganisms and the importance of the effectiveness factor in determining O2 diffusivity. Some experiments with co-immobilization, either with different microorganisms (aerobic/anaerobic)or with agents liberating O2 are also reported and discussed.
