The synthesis and functioning of membrane lipids in saprotrophic fungi and in the physiological relationships between pathogenic fungi and host plants are reviewed briejy. The roles of lipids in membranes of infectedplant tissue are discussed in more detail, with particular reference to the host-pathogen interface in biotrophic infections.
