A nomenclature is proposed to describe different types of inhibitions of enzymecatalyzed reactions, particularly fq,r reactions with more than one substrate and product. The rate equations for such inhibitions are discussed, as are methods for distillguishing between the various types of inhibition .and obtaining inhibition and kinetic constants from experimental data. Several examples are given of the type of information that can be obtained from inhibition studies.
