Soybean protoplasts were obtained by cellulase digestion of the walls. Washing out the enzyme using conditioned medium plus sorbitol and sucrose as osmotic stabilizers allowed the protoplasts to regenerate new walls. Subsequently many of the reconstituted cells underwent repeated division.
