Agave decipiens Baker is shown to be morphologically and geographically distinct from A vivipara L. of Mexico.The species differ in ovary length and anther length. Agave de-cipiens is endemic to southern Florida, USA, where it occurs in small, scattered populations in coastal habitats, some of which are currently protected. Its conservation status is classified as Conservation Dependent.
