In Mediterranean-type ecosystems syudies of the effects of the regime have emphasized the importance of fire interval or frequency, but the effects of fire inttensity should be distinguished. The sizes of post-fire individual of Ceanoshus spinosas in California chaparral are examined as indicators of the effects of fire interval, fire intensity, and subtrate.Five species of California coatral sage scrub are examined for the effects of fire interval, fire intensity-slope aspects, and subtrate.
