Tema(s): Recursos en línea: Resumen: Polyimides as a polymer class cover an extremely broad property range, from very high-melting wholly aromatic polyimides to melt-processable polymers. The impetus to their development resulted from the unique properties of the wholly aromatic polyimides, and success in their synthesis. The field has developed so rapidly and so broadly, particularly in the last few years, that it is no longer feasible to have a single section on polyimide synthesis describe all the possible synthesis variations. The procedures described below will be concerned particularly with polyimides which are completely, or principally, aromatic. Such modifications to polyimides as cross-linking, photosensitivity, enhanced solubility, and reactions which result in polyimides which are partly aliphatic, will be discussed in separate sections of this review.
