At the moment a good deal of interest is being shown in the idea of increasing the strength and fracture-toughness of metals at room and higher temperatures by the incorporation into them of strong fibres. The aim of this review is to present the scientific principles of fibre reinforcement and after discussing the type of microstructure needed to consider what methods can be used to achieve it. © 1965, Maney Publishing.
