composition of the volatile leaf oils of Persea podadenia grown in the Sierra Madre Occidental, Mexico, are reported here for the first time. Out of 41 compounds separated, 34 were identified by GC and GC/MS. The major components were ?-pinene(20per cent),?-3-carene(16per cent), limonene(12per cent), myrcene(10per cent),?-terpinene(10per cent), camphene (9per cent),?-pinene(8per cent)and ?-phellandrene(8per cent). We believe that its medicinal properties are due to the higher amounts of biologically active compounds like ?-pinene, ?-3-carene and limonene.
