At very early ages, we both developed an unusual interest in weather. In Chalmette, Louisiana, a downstream suburb of New Orleans, Barry watched flooding rainstorms and the approaches of tropical storms and hurricanes from the Gulf. In suburban New Jersey, Bob was excited about every snowfall, making careful measurements with a ruler and fretting during northeasters over whether the snow would change to sleet, reezing rain, or rain.
