A highly reactive gold(I)species, assigned as [AuCl2]-, is electrogenerated and its subsequent chemical reactions with L-cysteine, d-penicillamine and imidazole are monitored by electrochemical methods. By this in situ method, electrochemical data for (L-cysteinato)gold(I)and (D-penicillaminato)gold(I)were determined and compared to relevant gold(I)species. Electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical data for the reduction of [AuCl4]- in water is also presented.
