Tema(s): Recursos en línea: Resumen: Recent variational ideas on the micropolar continuum into the mechanical shell problems are reduced and a unified theoretical framework for analysing an arbitrary elastic behaviour of a shell structure is proposed. A suitable background for elimination of shortcomings within present versions of shell theory is provided. Balance equations for micropolar-shell-type continuum, transversality conditions and the shell-type analogue of the boundary virtual work for internal boundaries, like cracks, are defined and open problems in the definition of strain measures to micropolar-shell-type problems are mentioned. Attention is restricted throughout to theoretical considerations.
