Plant hormones (phytohormones)are signal molecules produced within the plant, and occur in very low concentrations. Whereas they were originally described as transported regulators of growth, development and physi ological processes, like animal hormones, it has been recognized more recently that they function not only in endocrine but also in autocrine and paracrine signalling to mediate both local and also systemic reactions towards environmental cues
