Probably physical and chemical stimuli, originating from the flowers, guide beetles to them in light. In darkness the insects' comparatively greater preference to leaves and flowers suggests that the attractants and arrestants present in both these parts of the plant are mainly in the form of chemical stimuli bearing equal intensity. These insects prefer to feed on the corolla of the flower of L. aegyptiaca. This preference is affected by stimulants in these parts of the plant. The nature and characteristics of these stimuli are unknown.
