Young segments of flower pedicels of the Chrysanthemum morifolium cultivars 'Super Yellow' and 'Bravo' regenerated rapidly high numbers of adventitious shoots in vitro. The influence of the explant-length, growth regulators, sugar, vitamins and minerals on adventitious shoot formation of both cultivars was examined. 11 cultivars, representing several important groups of cultivars, produced adventitious shoots on the same basic medium. Small shoots were separated and transferred to different media in vivo or in vitro for the initiation of adventitious roots and the consequent production of plantlets. The significance of this method for vegetative propagation, storage and mutation breeding is discussed.
