This paper presents a literature overview of progress and current state-of-the-art electrochemical hydrogen compressors (EHCs) emphasizing their performance diagnostics, durability testing methods, and possible degradation mechanisms that could affect the desired performance. The review also critically gives current technology shortcomings and challenges, primarily considering the current testing procedures issues of EHC state-of-health, but also suggests potential development ideas for improvements in perspective. © 2023 Hydrogen Energy Publications LLC
