N2  - Wildland fire may have either a positive or negative effect on the plant species diversity of biomes. Four facets of fire regime (interval or frequency, intensity, area or isolation, and season)are considered in relation to species life history parameters and components of resilience. Two conclusions are reached; the proceses underlyng the intermediate distubance hypothesis may be more complex and less ecological than proposed, and the use of a few major strategies to characterize patterns and processes may be inadequate
