N2  - Brown-rot and white-rot fungi have been found growing on recycled plastic/wood composite lumber after only 4 years of service in Florida. A plastic/wood composite was used to reconstruct boardwalks in the Everglades National Park in the winter of 1992-1993 after Hurricane Andrew. In the winter of 1996-1997, several cases of fungus fruiting bodies were observed growing out of this material in a number of locations. The results of an analysis of samples obtained from this material are discussed
