In our recent studies of the "thermal blooming" of laser light in organic liquids,! we found it necessary to know the value of the refractive index temperature coefficient. Thís coefficient is the fundamental parameter relating optícal and thermal quantities; although the coefficient is readily measurable, it is tabulated2-4 only for a limited number of organic líquids. We ínvestigated the possibility of relating the refractive index temperature coefficient to other perhaps better known parameters such as the index of refraction and the thermal expansivity. The result of this investigation íorms the text of this communication.
