New naphthoquinones from Diospyros

The structure of IV was .elucidated as an S'-hydroxy derivative of isodiospyrin. From the roots of D. muritima plumbagin (v), elliptinone (VI), a new quinone maritinone (VII), and a new tetralone isoshinanolone (VIII)were isolated. Maritinone (VII)was shown to be the 8,8'-dimer of plumagin, and (VIII)is cis-4,8-dihydroxy-3-methyl-lt lone. The naphthoquinones of the genus Diospyros are briefly reviewed.
