Of the condensed phosphates with cyclic anions, onl)the srimeta- and tetrametaphosphates were hitherto known and ttudied. However, in 1956, Van Woter and Karl-Kroupa [l]found indications by means of two-dimensional paper chromatography [2]that phosphates with cyclic anions, i.e. metaphosphates,with more than four PO3 groups per anion, are present in solutions and hydrolysates of Graham's salt. This was confirmed in 1961 by Rudy and Ruj [31.
