245 1 0 _aRole of a Fusarium culmorum ABC transporter (FcABC1)during infection of wheat and barley
490 0 _vPhysiological and Molecular Plant Pathology, 54(5), p.245-254, 2004
520 3 _aA gene encoding the ATP-binding cassette (ABC)transporter FcABC1 was characterised in Fusarium culmorum. It is homologous to two transporters, Magnaporthe grisea ABC1 and Gibberella pulicaris ABC1, that play a role in plant pathogenesis. Transcripts of FcABC1 were present during infection of barley roots. A FcABC1 replacement mutant was produced and in a point inoculation experiment of wheat heads, the mutant displayed reduced aggressiveness, indicating that FcABC1 has a function during infection of plant tissue. It is hypothesised that wheat contains an antifungal compound that inhibits the spread of the fungus in the plant and to which FcABC1 confers resistance.
