The fragmentation behavior of saponins was studied using ESI-MS1-3 in positive ion mode. The MSn spectra of the [MRH]R ions provide structural information including aglycone type and the nature and sequence of sugars. The use of ELSD allowed the profiling of the nonchromophore-containing saponins in this plant.
