245 1 0 _aCytokinin and the wounding response in potato tissue
490 0 _vZ. Pflanzenphysiol., 109, p.1-5, 1983
520 3 _ahe relationship between wound healing and the levels of endogenous cytokinins in Solanum tuberosum tuber pieces was investigated. Cytokinin-like activity which co-chromatographed with zeatin and ribosylzeatin was detected in all the tissue analysed. The rate and degree of periderm formation was the greatest in unwashed tissue pieces. Washing in distilled water and treatment with 20 mgl-l phosphon D reduced cell division and resulted in the detection of lower levels of cytokinins in the tissue. From the results it appears that the level of cytokinin detected in the tuber tissue depends on the degree of cell division occurring. Cytokinins thus appear to be produced as a result of this process during wound healing in potato tubers.
