520 3 _aThis chapter presents mathematical models for the degradation of semi-crystalline polymers. The degradation model presented in Chapter 3 is extended to include crystallisation that is induced by cleavage of the polymer chains. The classical theory due to Avrami, is modified to model the cleavage-induced crystallisation. Two versions of the crystallisation theory are presented with one assuming that the crystal growth is much faster than chain scission and the other without the fast growth assumption. The equations are solved numerically to provide molecular weight and degree of crystallinity as functions of time. Both models are able to fit experimental data well. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd.
