245 1 0 _aThe mechanical properties of single wood pulp fibres: Theories of strength
490 0 _vFibre Science and Technology, 8(1), p.21-31, 1975
520 3 _aAn analogy is drawn between the structure of a wood pulp fibre and a helically wound, fibre-reinforced composite tube. Two criteria of tensile failure that have been used for fibre reinforced composites, namely that of Kelly and Davies12 and that of Hill,14 have been examined to account for the variation in fibre strength with the fibril angle (the angle of the helical winding). Hill's criterion fits the experimental data excellently. © 1975.
