520 3 _aSeaweed has become a research focus due to its tremendous biological benefits and functions. It is regarded as a sustainable source of food containing variety of bioactive compounds, including micro and macronutrients, vitamins, minerals, fatty acids, carbohydrates, fibers, and proteins. The pharmacological roles of seaweeds are also widely established. It is a strong antimicrobial and anticancerous agent and improves health by providing active components that have antioxidative, antidiabetic, anticoagulant, antiobesity, antihypertensive, and antiinflammatory properties. The availability of these active components depends exclusively on their purification and extraction method. This review describes different chromatographic techniques that were employed to effectively purify and extract seaweed contents and further analysis of these purified fractions for different purposes such as for profiling, quantification, and to characterize them structurally and functionally in order to elucidate their active functions.
