| 520 | 3 | _aThe chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of essential oils from Bursera graveolens and Taxodium mucronatum leaves were studied. The essential oils were obtained by water steam distillation and were later analyzed by GC-MS. The major constituent of the oils were limonene (42.90 percent ), ?-ocimene (17.39 percent ), ?-elemene (11.82 percent ), menthofuran (6.79 percent ) for Bursera graveolens; and ?-pinene (31.0 percent ), sabinene (13.16 percent ), thujopsene (8.11 percent ), 4-terpineol (7.66 percent ), ?-terpinene (6.91 percent ) and ?-myrcene (6.57 percent ) for Taxodium mucronatum. Both essential oils showed antimicrobial activity against Gram positives bacteria but not on Gram negatives bacteria. Essential oil of B. graveolens was highest antimicrobial activity than T. mucronatum essential oil. Both essential oils show minimal inhibitory concentrations lowest for yeast than for bacteria. | |
