245 1 0 _aEfficacy of RNA-spray-induced silencing of Phakopsora pachyrhizi chitin synthase genes to control soybean rust
490 0 _vJournal of General Plant Pathology, 88(3), p.203-206, 2022
520 3 _aAsian soybean rust caused by Phakopsora pachyrhizi is mainly controlled by synthetic fungicides; however, fungicide tolerance has emerged in P. pachyrhizi. In tests of spray-induced gene silencing (SIGS)using dsRNAs of P. pachyrhizi chitin synthase genes (dsCHS), which are important for the differentiation of appressoria that are needed for infection, soybean rust lesion formation was reduced. Further, treatment with dsCHS suppressed appressoria formation. These results suggest that SIGS of fungal CHS genes will provide an additional tool to control soybean rust.
